Wow! You need to talk with Margie, my mother-in-law. They built their first house thirty years ago and the farm is to be flooded for a lake to provide water for the city of Dallas TX. So for several years she's been designing a new home about an hour away. They've logged a lot of the timber on their current land, known for beau d'arc. They're expert pecan-shellers/pickers, a well-oiled machine working together and Margie cans her home-grown pears. Thanks for the info and visit! Dee

I'm returning the visit and comment...Your place sounds wonderful! It has snowed in MS in April about 1989 or so. A once in a lifetime event I'm sure.
I don't think I've ever seen Alder wood, I'll have to look it up. We cut our own trees and sawed them up with a sawmill when we built our house. We used pine, poplar, and sycamore.
Thanks for visiting my blog! I commented about the pecans here: http://mrsgaylynn.wordpress.com/2008/01/22/let-it-snow
