We were thrown one yesterday. A doozie that will take some time to sort out. It may take some time off our blog and I don’t want to disappoint 75-125 per day who take the time to visit. So I may do one post a day but it’s a great stress-reducer and I can’t believe I like it so much – over 1,200 hits in three weeks! Keep reading!
I love my husband, extended family, friends and our dog. Cooking for them is a pleasure, a joy (dog gets terrific healthy food without me cooking). Now I can add blogging to my list, thanks to you.
Tonight I made Jim a huge NY strip steak while I had sweet Italian Sausage. Both of us had sliced cluster tomataoes and frozen french fries. It was good, not very inventive or time-intensive but it’s one night.
Some interesting things happened today aside from cooking. A certain type of park opened across the street recently and the first thing that happened is that the no parking signs went missing. We contacted the Mayor and today ten new signs are out and we have a two-way street again.
The pyro folks showed up for the largest land-based fireworks show in the USA and the producer called out my dog’s name from afar, even though we only met a few times last year. We always look forward to July 4th and family and friends try to visit because we’re right in the middle of it! I only make 5-6 dishes now and order the smoked brisket, ribs and chicken from a local BBQ joint and heat things up prior to serving.
Hope you’re enjoying the first day of summer and having fun on vacation and at home with the kids. Dee

We should all be doing this regularly, the thinking thing, that is. Let’s think about what happens when we get up in the morning and have to make breakfast. Hello, if I’m talking to guys they’re probably single. If not, rant.
Must say that I love the husband I have but I’d never let him cook a meal because I know what a disaster he is in the kitchen. And our cookware, forget it. Dropped on a concrete floor and squared too many times.
The dog is allowed but for only about a minute per day when she has to chew and swallow raw frozen lamb or venison. With a lot of veggies. Plus dry food and organic chix broth. Then she hangs outside the kitchen and watches me, like a hawk.
How do you feel about your kitchen domain? I don’t even think about it now but at some point boundaries were set.
Let me leave you by saying love your family and friends and treat them well. I’m sure if you’re a cook they flock to you and depend on you so do your best to be there for them.
People will remember us in our hospitality, our interest in their well-being, camaraderie and thoughtful food.
Health and happiness.
Dee

I heard today that employers view idealism as as a negative quality in employees in their thirties (supposedly old enough to know better than to believe this world can be a better place). Perhaps idealism is connected with ethics, a willingness to solve problems and create workable solutions. Also intelligence, creativity and honesty.
If all these qualities are described as negatives by the very businesses who have placed us in this credit debacle then we know exactly what caused it and why two Bear Stearns execs were arrested today.
Forget hiring honest, smart folks who can help your business. Continue to drive your business down the drain and most likely the Feds will bail you out. Whose pocket does that come from? Ours.
Tonight I made the cheater lasagne and Jim loved it, as always. This time I used an expensive $6.15 sauce with mushrooms, but spent nothing on meat and I already had the no-boil noodles.
We have to draw the line somewhere with the troops and the sub-prime crisis. Sorry, but our President is concerned today with his legacy, “considering” oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that he can do now because he’s a lame duck. He raised that issue his first year in office.
Money is one thing, young American lives are another. Much more important. Please find a way, new President, to give things over to the Iraquis and allow our troops to come home to their families.
It’s been an interesting day but info will have to wait. Dee
